Q: I've got my new towel rail and I would like to know how to clean it. Can I use solvent based products or brass cleaners?

 1 Jan 2005

A: NO. All you need to clean your towel rail is warm soapy water on a soft cloth and a soft non abrasive cloth to remove any drip marks. The only advice we would give you is to be careful if the towel rail is operating as it will be hot and also to be sure you thoroughly dry the towel rail after cleaning as water will dry very quickly if the towel rail is operating and leave water marks. Under no circumstances should you use any solvent or abrasive products or cloths on a towel rail particularly on powder coated or gold plated products. It will more than likely harm the high quality finish, which is very difficult and costly to repair.
