Q: I want to put a heated towel rail in my bathroom on the domestic hot water system. My plumber tells me that I need a DZR towel rail. What does this mean and where can I buy one?

A: Your plumber has advised you well. DZR, or dezincification resistant towel rails are available on the BathroomStuff site. Any product that is brass and does not have an inset radiator will be suitable for this purpose. The reason you need a brass towel rail is the water that will be running through it will be fresh oxygenated water. This will corrode a steel towel rail in a very short space of time. In certain conditions, this will also corrode standard brass. Due to this, brass towel rails purchased from the BathroomStuff site are manufactured from DZR brass. This does prevent most cases of corrosion. Should you require any further information, please contact us on 023 9221 5633 for more information. Fernox.com  has a wealth of information on their site about system corrosion and treatments which we would recommend you take a look at. Please look for the Corrosion in Heating Systems information, which will be posted on our website shortly as a downloadable PDF file.
